LocalXML™ is offered on a simple, volume-based pricing model, invoiced monthly. Contract terms are flexible and straightforward to focus on the needs of the publisher.

There is also a free 30-day trial for all new publishers to try out the feed and determine how to best use it.

In addition, we also offer a sponsored search feed without any query charges - instead we pay publishers who qualify to run the sponsored feed for clicks their users make on our ads. Publishers who run the sponsored feed, in conjunction with the business data feed, typically see $15+ CPMs.

There is also a free, scaled down version of LocalXML that may work for some publishers. Click here to get started.

Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers)

What exactly is a query?
A query is a call to the LocalXML API, independent of who or what requests the information or what information is requested. This means any time your site or application calls the LocalXML API, whether we return business search results or business details, we count that as a query. Note that if search engine spiders such as Google or Yahoo are crawling your site, they may be making queries to our system. Most publishers want this, as they want the search engines to see their unique content, but if you do not, you can block the search engines from calling the LocalXML API.

What data is returned in a business search result query?
We return up to 20 business listings for a "what + where" search, including the name, address, number of reviews and average rating for each business.

What data is returned in a business detail query?
We return information about alternative names for the business, contact information like phone numbers, web addresses, ratings and reviews for the individual business your user is looking at. We'll be expanding the number of fields available here over time.
Why do I have more queries than visitors?
Your site gets visited by both human and non-human visitors. Tools like Google Analytics primarily track human visitors, but sites with more pages often get more visits from non-human visitors like search engine spiders. By default, your site is likely set up to query LocalXML for both human and non-human visitors, so you will likely see more queries than you have human visitors. If you want to prevent this, you need to block non-human visitors from calling the LocalXML Service.

How can I prevent the search engines from calling LocalXML?
There are several ways to do this, but the best way is to filter based on user agent and to only call the LocalXML service for the user agents that you want to see LocalXML listings. You can dramatically reduce your query volume by filtering out search engine spiders, but you lose the benefit of the content that LocalXML provides, so we recommend that you do this only if you are not interested in optimizing your site for thee search engines.

Is there a limit to the number of queries during the free trial?
Yes. By default, your free trial will last for the sooner of 1,000,000 queries or 30 days. If you need more queries to get properly implemented, contact LocalXML and we will evaluate if an extension is needed.
